97 F-250 7.3 transmission self corrected

I just bought a 97 F-250 7.3 , the previous owner said it sat in a shed for over a year and he Ran it regularly but didnt drive it and that the transmission was bad. It started and ran great. I noticed he OD light was flashing and it shifted very hard (slammed) from 1st to 2nd to 3rd.
I bought it for parts for my current 97 F-250 and drove it home.
I parked it for 3 days, changed the oil, checked the trans fluid level (good level but not very red, looks clear). I started it everyday but didn't drive it.
Then last night I decided to drive it. When I started it I noticed the OD light was off and it shifted smooth and perfect. I stopped and accelerated through the gears about ten times and it shifted flawlessly.
I'm excited it shifts now but I'm worried it will do it again.
What's up with that?

Re: 97 F-250 7.3 transmission self corrected

There is a code stored in the computer's memory. If you get the codes read (the places that read codes free CANNOT read these codes) we'll be able to offer some insight as to what's up with that.

If the light isn't flashing and it's driving OK, it's probably fine to drive it.
