i think it runs lower than 140*. my gauge dosen't go any lower. i put the temp sensor in the 1/8 pipe in the driverside of the trans. should i put in the side of the pan??

No, you shouldn't move it to the pan. You have the sensor in the best place already.

When not heavily loaded the trans should be about 60F above ambient temperature after about 10 miles of city driving.

Mine while freeway cruising unloaded in 100+ degrees runs 165-175. I think you are pretty accurate. Where are you?

Re: trans temp gauge installed, trans temp seems low???

When I first put mine in I didn't think it was working. Just took a long time to heat up. Felt pretty dumb after crawling around under my truck on the side of the road to have it move like half a mile down the road.
