Broke down in Gallup New Mexico 97 7.3

Need IMMEDIATE HELP, I flew out to Phoenix from Ohio to purchase a BEAUTIFUL 97 Extended cab 4X4 with 143,000 original miles! On my way back, I noticed smoke pouring from under the truck, I IMMEDIATLY pulled off and shut it down. looking under the truck, tranny fluid was pouring out the torque converter cover. I had it towed to the nearest shop, and I put a few quarts in the transmission, fired it up and its still leaking.(I was reading that the front seal will sometimes re-seal after the trans cools off). Any suggestions on a Competent transmission guy near Gallup New Mexico?????? What should I do!?!?!? Thank You!

That's bad news man. Trans will need to be removed for repair. The 2500$ question is weather it can be fixed with just a seal or need rebuild. If u find a transmission shop that's a question for them. My experience is 50/50. If a seal gets you home put a rebuild on your list of things to do

Thank You Wrench4alivin, I'm figuring out my options. Truck seemed to shift fine on the test drive, but as I started home, I noticed it seemed late to shift to second. ran on the interstate just fine, and NO towing of any kind. My brother lives in Phoenix, and offered to bring me a tranny, just don't know who to get one from on short notice, or who I could trust?
