4r100 questions?????

i have searched the site and have found alot of arguements on which complete tranny is the best but i was wondering what you guys thought about buying a kit and having a local shop install it. And what kind of kit you would reccomend not an all out race tranny but the best bang for the buck for a mild performance and lighter towing truck (never over 12,000). I just cant afford a high end transmission bieng a college student but would still like to get a quality transmission that will hopefully live for a long time.

Re: 4r100 questions?????

Only complete kit by a trans builder-expert is one from John Wood..starts about $2400..I'd call and talk to him.
One think to keep in mind is a warranty..who is going to cover it if you have problems...so many posts on rebuild trans from guys that find out the paper they have is worthless. IMO Save till you can get a trans built from a expert and a warrentee you can count on.

Re: 4r100 questions?????

i would love to be able to wait and save up for a really good tranny but i dont believe time is on my side my truck has 120000 miles on its stock tranny and it is not shifting very good at all. i am not sure how much time it has left but i dont think its long for this world.

Racer X has some pretty good kits. I don't think a lot of hard parts are included, I guess it would depend on what you need.

I think it will end up with the "Mom said see your Dad and Dad said see your Mom". You bring the builder the parts and if things go south, he might blame the parts guy and the parts guy will blame the builder. If you insist on going local in spite of the fact that there are known good companies, get the builder to do it all. That way, when something breaks, he cannot fob it off onto the parts guy and vice versa.

If you have a BTS trans, I think you can take the VB out and have it adjusted for firmer shifts. I think it it takes a couple of drill bits to do that. Check with Brian.

The DP-Tuner can have some adjustment there too. Talk to Jody. What is it you are trying to change?

Best to always leave trans tuning in the VB not using tunes!
