5r110 getting hot

ok well i just rebuilt my 5r with a suncoast kit and everything seems fine except the fact that my trans gets hot unless the converter is locked. i also put a 1800 stall converter in but i dont think that would make it heat up that easy. the only other thing i can think of is that we used mercon V instead of sp but suncoast said thats ok in the instructions. im stumped. anyone have any ideas.

Did you replace the cooler? Could it be plugged?

i didnt replace it but it was fine before which makes me think it shouldnt be. idk im getting tired of messing with it.
