Trans ?

Well, my truck isnt shifting the way it used too with the new added power, it revs up instead of shifting, here is my question.. I have been told that a valve body will help me out quite a bit, I cant afford a full trans build yet, I can afford a tc, vb, and whatever it costs for the front pump. My ts chip is acting up and going back to the stock setting on me(running in 100hp setting then check engine light and back to stock power I go), So I will be getting a new f5 from Jody, So I can have him burn it for whatever route I decide to go. I am getting a valve body at bare minimum. Should I get a 6.0 cooler? I would like to hear what all of you have to say!! Thanks

Re: Trans ?

Well, I can give you my personal experience which may or may not help at all.

I replaced my torque converter with the updated "triple disk" one from Ford.

It is NOT the 6.0 converter, but it is supposed to be triple disk, only difference being a thick front cover and lower stall speed for the 6.0 converter. Otherwise the same.

I have a FTVB, don't really like the way it shifts but they are quick and firm, that has saved my trans a lot of slipping.

I also added a magnefine inline trans filter.

If your converter is not dying yet, I would add it BEFORE the coolers, to save it from being polluted if something does happen to the trans.

I truly believe this is why my trans is still together. I'm somewhere in the neighborhood of 375-400 I like to believe, definitely over 350 no matter what, and it's still living.

As far as the cooler, I would NOT do it unless you are having temp problems.

Re: Trans ?

for how cheap a 6.0 cooler is, and with a lifted truck, i would get it if you can find one for cheap or on ebay...i got mine brand new for $125...never gone over 170 on 37's.....worth it in my book....

I've encountered this problem at each major power increase that I've done. Always fixed it with a torque converter. First got a converter from BD which worked well. Then got a full built ATS trans with their 5 Star. I've been sending the converter back here and there to get it loosened up or tightened to work with whatever set-up I run.

Re: Trans ?

^^ I agree, a converter made a huge difference for me as well. Felt like a different truck. Actually pushed you in the seat when it locked, instead of just revving.

I would get an inline filer on there ASAP so the dying converter doesn't pollute the rest of the trans, plug up the coolers and overheat, etc.

Then get a converter in it if you can't do a full build right now.

If you're savvy, you could consider a DIY while you have it out. Cost savings is substantial.

Re: Trans ?

I have had really good luck running a Suncoast convertor and a Transgo tugger kit........until a couple months ago. no issues at all for over 3 years.

Convertor held fine, but I blew up the OD planetary. (from what I was told, the OD I blew was aluminum and should have been steel). While the tranny was out, I went back in with a heavier planetary assembly as well as a billet input shaft from John Wood.

I'm guessing my tranny is holding 450? maybe...

All is well now.

Yes sir.

Oh yeah, I added a 6.0 cooler (at Biggies suggestion). Got it from a buddy for $50. It dropped my temps 35 degrees.
