overdrive wont work

i was driving today going about 70 and all of a sudden the rpms went way up so i let out of it, it was 2600 at 65mph instead of about 2100. i hit the over drive button and turned it off and back on but it wouldnt do anything. the trans temp also climbed up to 220 and i was unloaded and about 65* outside, once i returned home the trans had fell to 190 but went back up to 205. has anyone else expericened this and what was wrong thanks.

Re: overdrive wont work

Are you sure it wasn't the converter just unlocking and staying that way?

That would tend to make the temps climb more than just driving in D.

It could be a silly electrical issue make sure to check all the fuses and such both boxes, were you towing anything?

Re: overdrive wont work

i think it might be the torque converter, i was driving it again and the it still wont go more then 65mph, and the 2-3 shift takes awhile, the one time it was a good 1/2 mile of going about 25mph at almost 3000rpm. so im hoping its just the tc not anything else, does this sound like symptoms of a bad tc. for the last couple months it has seemed to shutter going up a hill at like 40-45.

Re: overdrive wont work

I can't see how this could be the torque converter. The torque converter has nothing to do with shifting, and you're describing a trans that won't shift.
