E40D Problems!

I have a 97 F250 PSD and something is badly wrong with my tranns. I was up camping this last week and im only towing maybe 2000lbs (two ATV's, 16ft Flatbed). I was driving and i noticed i was just losing power all of the sudden. I looked over and my OD light was flashing. The truck began to shift really hard! Get to camp and i threw it in reverse and the truck sounded like it was gonna stall... RPM's dropped and the truck sounded like it was barley running. Tried backing up and i had no reverse power what so ever. Now when im in reverse and i shift into drive the truck would like jump forward as if my foot was on the gas and i put it into drive. On the drive home yesterday same thing OD light flashing and really hard shifts! Get it home and couldnt even back my trailer up in the driveway! Same problem.

So... does anyone have any idea whats wrong??? I don't know much of anything about transmissions. Hope i explained the problem good enough to understand!

Thanks!

I had a tranny flush about 2 months ago. Fluid was clean.

Re: E40D Problems!

gonna have to get a scanner and find the codes, since the od light is flashing that means a code has been stored.

now when you say you shifted into drive it acted like you were on the gas? sounds like maybe the tc didnt unlock.

Re: E40D Problems!

Is it safe to drive for now until it completely blows up?

The truck starts, stops, all the lights work. It's plenty safe to drive.

The tranny will not like it. You might want to fix it before it blows up. A live tranny can be cheaper to rebuild than a dead one.

If I don't have the truck from the second it rolls off the lot or has had the trans rebuilt, I never flush the fluid, or even change it. All the crud in it is the only thing keeping it together. I'd give bts or suncoast a call and get a trans build date reserved now because the trans probably won't last another month or two. BTW your speedo still work? No blown fuses anywhere?

Yeah everything works fine other than my stupid trans! The OD light keeps flashing but i was reading somewhere and it says... when OD light is flashing a trans malfunction has been detected and will perform in a failure mode.
