Rockauto Dorman 6.0 Cooler

Is the Dorman 6.0 cooler from Rockauto a good cooler or do I need to spend more $$$. Since I am doing a transmission flush, adding a spin on filter I might as well do the cooler at the same time.

Re: Rockauto Dorman 6.0 Cooler

Which part number are you looking at? I did a quick lookup and it appeared the ones listed are not the Ford 6.0 type 28 or 32 row trans coolers, they generally go for $180 and up. The ones I saw listed appear to be the tube type coolers.

The Dorman part# is 918216. It shows an OEM # that crosses with a Ford 6.0. I also wonder about the quality for the $160. price.

Re: Rockauto Dorman 6.0 Cooler

The quality is OK... Not great. The brackets are pop riveted on and the 2 I got were not very tightly mounted.

Why did I get 2? Well, these coolers are so poorly packaged that it's almost impossible to get one shipped and arrive with out being damaged. Neither of the 2 I got were useable. I ended up getting an OEM 26 row from Tousley/Bear Lake Ford.

Received the cooler today from partsgeek.com. Shipping was very good, large box lots of bubble wrap no damage at all. I ordered a Dorman 918-216 for a 2005 F 250 and it was a 32 row cooler for 153.56 with free shipping . Can't beat it for the price.

Re: Rockauto Dorman 6.0 Cooler

You most certainly will be beating your head for not replacing it with an OEM cooler when that Dorjunk cooler fails and clogs. You buy Dorman = you asking for trouble. I just don't get it. That oil cooler is like the heart of your truck. Clog that up and your screwed. Of all the parts to cheap out on............why do you guys pick the oil cooler?

Re: Rockauto Dorman 6.0 Cooler

Thanks for the info on the Dorman oil cooler, if that time comes I will steer clear of it, but I was talking about the trans. cooler. It looks and feels equal to the add on coolers, fins seam to be connected well thickness of the tubes look equal. I am going to give it a try I will update the post later.
