Barbed or 6 AN

I am looking at some aftermarket trans coolers which seem to be bigger and than the 6.0 coolers. I can save around $10.00 if i get barbed. Will barbed fittings hold the pressure or do i need the 6AN?

Barbed will hold pressure, but AN are just nicer, and make removal later easier.

What is the application of those coolers? If they aren't designed correctly for the application, bigger won't cool better.

If only those who knew what they were talking about replied, this thread would still be on page one.

Thank you.
I was thinking of a Summit racing 17"X10" with 1/2 tube trans cooler. I can get for $44.00. You think that is adaquate?

I wouldn't use it. It's about half the size of a 6.0 cooler and not as efficient. I'd rather have the stock cooler that came on your truck.

You shouldn't be looking for anything except a good deal on a 6.0 cooler. The next best cooler is a V-10 cooler. Do you have a cooling issue?

I have a new to me truck my old truck 99.5 totaled had some slipping issues. The new truck i do not want to make the same mistakes by not doing anything to suport the trans. So i am all about keeping my trans healthy for as long as i can. All the reading i do on the boards sayes heat and the stock cooler a the enemy.

Re: Barbed or 6 AN

If your truck was mfg after March 2000 it has two trans coolers. Unless you have some unusual operating condition they will keep the trans cool. You may be concerned about nothing. If you simply want to make it better, use a 6.0 cooler.
