Re: over drive problem

Could be a senser that went bad, or you might just need a new tranny.
Need Mark to see this one.

Re: over drive problem

Give me more description of what's happening. Is it the button and light on the end of the shifter doesn't work? Or is it that the trans shifts 1-2-3, but won't shift to 4th?

Re: over drive problem

Could it also be that it's going into OD but the TC isn't locking up?

Are you a diesel mechanic? I'd think anyone with an interest if fixing anything could take this info and turn it into an idea. I'd look for a bare or broken wire in the direction the smoke came from.

If only those who knew what they were talking about replied, this thread would still be on page one.

Re: over drive problem

Did you take the cover off of the steering column and inspect the wires where they enter the shifter handle? They often break right there and cause the type of problem you're having.

Re: over drive problem

Has anyone put the OD off button on a seperate switch instead of on the shifter? I tend to use mine everyday while I'm in town. With 4.10 gears & 31" tires it will going into OD at 35MPH if your easy on it so I just turn it off till I get out of town. I figgure it's alot better on the tranny to stay in 3rd gear than to go into OD at the low end & keep popping in & out of OD with the flow of traffic.
