rebuilt 5r110 2-3 shift

it's like it pauses for second then goes in its not a flare acts like maybe a solinoid hanging up,whenyou manually shift it with the gear selector it goes in normally no pause the only thing i didn't replace during the build was the solinoids but i used the valve body and solinoids from a donor tranny that i got all my 05 updates out of so i do not know what issues it may have had, also the tow haul light isn't on

Re: rebuilt 5r110 2-3 shift

sorry guys is the 3-4 shift i put the stock programming in truck before i ran the trans, also maybe it's just learning it's almost like the engine cuts throttle then it shifts then its power comes back on its kinda like its thinking about it for a sec then goes in, i turned on tow haul and it shifts from 3-4 without the power cut or delay, truck has 190/75 injectors 68mm pmax and all the other usual things, trans was rebuilt using alto reds koleen steels and a transgo shift kit (the smaller kit) onlycame with a better snap ring for the low reverse and a few springs that went in the pump along with a relief type plug that is suposed to prevent case lugs from blowing out or damaging the low reverse snap ring

Re: rebuilt 5r110 2-3 shift

Probably just still learning. It could also be tuning. My 3-5 shift took a very long time to get right with my tuner. It would shift lightning fast with no 'delay' when first loaded, then got lazy over time. Its still not 100% perfect but its damn close. It would only do this on part throttle also, about 2/3 to 3/4 throttle. It was fine at WOT. Some delay is normal because the PCM will pull fuel so it does not damaged the direct clutches. Ford programmed it so the shift will take 0.4 seconds from start to finish. I rebuilt mine with the same exact stuff except i replaced all but 3 solenoids. What was the failure?

ok i ordered the modified direct clutch selonoid from ptp today to try, low reverse was the failure, mine only does it on part throttle as well wot is fine, it has got a little better as it learns i think but still not as fast as id like.

Re: rebuilt 5r110 2-3 shift

as in the planetary failure? Or was it the clutches or clutch piston causing no reverse? I have read that the modified solenoid will make it shift harshly with these clutches. I just replaced mine with a stock one. What year truck is yours? If it was an 04 i know there was a recall about the reverse planetary.

Re: rebuilt 5r110 2-3 shift

clutches were gone, truck is an 03 but i did all the 05 updates including the planetary that was a weak point on the earlier 03 04 trucks in fact they changed a bunch of stuff in the 5r110 in 05, i got all the updated parts and put in my 03 case. i think it just needed to learn i drove the truck a bunch today and it kept getting better now it's fine it seems like. so the direct solenoid is not a good thing with the alto reds?

Re: rebuilt 5r110 2-3 shift

I have read that it will cause harsh shifting from those that have used it. I spoke with member wise guy on here and he has seen many with that solenoid and this kit that shift too hard. You have 2 extra clutches in that drum now i dont really see a need for it as well. Did you plow with your truck?

Re: rebuilt 5r110 2-3 shift

yeah i figure it should be fine as it has the extra clutches now and it's shifting great at the moment it seems to have worked itself out but i guess sense i already ordered the selonoid im gunna try it out of it's to harsh I'll put the stock one in again, i haven't plowed with it or really pull anything but i do beat on it like a red headed step child lol. once i get the new selonoid i will report my findings. i think for now I'm gunna say my problem was the trans was still learning
