Re: anyone tried this

I also just finished this mod and it shifts alot better. It seems to shift a little firm in the 2-3 shiftthan the other shifts BUT I have a tw chip in it, and when I ordered it I told him I have no trans modifications to it so it may be why. I will be sending the chip back to be reflashed for some other mods aswell and will reply after it is done. I would recomend this mod.

Re: anyone tried this

I originaly drilled the holes to .068 dia. When I would laying into it hard or pulling a heavy trailer I thought it shifted to hard, I was worried about the life of the trans. So I drilled and tapped the holes to fit a 8-32 thread. I drilled a .040 hole in a stainless the set screws, screwed it in with red lock-tite and pin punched the threads (its not comming out).
It shifts great now IMO. It doesn't slide into gear or snap my neck back when it shifts. Its not real hard but, it does shift into the next gear alot quicker/firmer. When I'm into the throttle or pulling its GREAT now also. So if anyone does this and youre trans slides into gear like mine DID, start by drill a .040 hole and you probly wont go bigger but if you do, only go up about .005 at a time.

Re: anyone tried this

i drilled mine to 1/16" (.062) and the 1-2 shift is perfect. 2-3 is a little soft, might have to egg the hole a tiny bit to get it where i want. 3-4 can be a little firm at times under part throttle if the converter is locked.

Really can't believe not many people have tried this mod.

Re: anyone tried this

The more I drive it I think I should have drilled it .050 because I can barley feel it shift. When it shifts it goes into the next gear quick, I can see and hear it shift but can't really feel it. We get ice up here so I think I will leave it so It doesn't break the tires loose on the ice.

Re: anyone tried this

So is this a reliable mod? Mine has a soft shift, esp 2-3, and the DP chip made it worse in the 80e, should this firm it up? Jody is confused, wants the chip back to check it, but the previuos owner of the chip said it shifted great. Was going to get a shift kit, but this looks like it does the same thing?
