Spend the money$$ on a quality 3 disc converter with a billet face. I've put 1130 torque thru one built locally using basic Luk converter clutches. Cost me 750 for the converter.
Look into sonnax for their "sure cure " for the e4od. It contains a lot of updates and fixes for the trans. It's not to hard to install too once the trans is out.
Go with trans go for a shift kit. I've tried superior shift kits and the springs break in a month and give laggy shifts. Also drilling holes in the accumulator body for each up shift help out too.

1996 crew cab long box. 3.73s, auto 493/1135 stockish auto trans.

A good converter, valve body upgrade and a cooler. Good for 400?

1996 F250 CCSB, 4x4, auto PSD, stainless window vents.

Signature file limitations keep me from sharing more information. Follow this link to find my threads: D60 RSK install, Air vent cleaning, etc.

This is not an area you want to cheap out on...

For $1500 or so you can have a quality converter, valve body and cooler. Spend the $ now and be done with it.

The flip side is you cheap out and break internals and possibly drivetrain components then it ends up costing you a lot more than $1500.
