Broken Overdrive Planetary in a 4R100

Who all has busted one?

Last Thursday night Jonathan was tuning my truck (very late). He was in the throttle a bit, heard the noise and then no gears....

Luckily it was the OD planetary.

This is not unusual for this power level I understand. I know Lott has had issues with this....Charles broke his...and a bunch of others out there. I have been told that the OD out of a 99-01 is stronger than the one from a 02-up. Anybody know if they have different part numbers?

Also. Who is running a stronger aftermarket unit? I know where I could probably get one...but its $$.

Get the best stock one and have it cryoed if you don't want to get the billet one from BTS.

He has busted one set of pump gears and a drum and thats it so far. He has probably put on 60-70 passes on it with it anywhere from 900hp-1100 hp this year and has held up like a champ.

Re: Broken Overdrive Planetary in a 4R100

Brain told me the cryoed ones USUALLY work fine for trucks up to 800 hp. If it's not cryoed they don't last for sh!t.

Re: Broken Overdrive Planetary in a 4R100

I'm going off memory here but I think the deal is the OBS trucks used a better forged part and that is what BTS uses.

I tracked one down and even got a good deal on it because they are considered a defunct part # and then I had it cryoed for my tranny. There were only like 17 in the entire country when I bought mine and I bought 2 of them.

Place in Decalb (sp?), IL that does good cryo work for cheap. '300 Below' I think they are called. I added that just for cheap insurance.

Good Luck.

I'm officially...Stroke-less.
