E4OD questions

Are they all the same, from 198X to 1997? As far as, can they all be built up the same? I don't know, so I figured I'd ask someone who does. Just wondering if I can find an old wrecked IDI and get the trans built?

Re: E4OD questions

All the E4ODs installed on a diesel have the same case. The internals changed over the years. The mechanical parts were made stronger at various times, and there were some differences in electronics. You want the latest for the strongest mechanicals, and you want electronics that match the PCM.

Yes, the older models can be built up. Some will need more than other years. Electronics can be matched to a PSD in any year. You will need a diesel case as said.

Re: E4OD questions

So if you find a low-mileage, used one for sale its not a big deal to match it up to your rig, regardless of year, with just some electronic changes or whatever? Or if you find a high-mileage one for sale for, say, cheap, that you plan to have rebuilt; the builder can match the electronics to your PCM, etc.??

A rebuider that knows how,can match your exisiting pcm to any year case. As said if performance is your goal upgrades need to be done to early models beyond new clutchs.
