"Lost" forward gears, what gives?

Well, I seem to have a prob with my E4. I have reverse, but my forward gears are quite weak. The truck will move forward but under nearly any acceleration it will chatter then slip badly. The pan is pretty clean..... Any ideas? If I manually select 1st it will hold more, but still slips. The trans is a recent rebuild: Stallion converter, Tugger kit, etc. I am using a PCS controller as well. Any thoughts are appreciated...

Who built it? Sounds internal to me.

Couple local friends/mechanics and me, I suppose we could have screwed something up, but its worked fine for 6/7 mos. This issue just up and happened, can a failed solenoid pack be to blame?

My guess would be if this problem is from the beginning, you might have damaged one of the lip seals while putting it together. Did you do air checks to make sure the lip seals were not damaged? I know I have hurt more then one putting them together. If the trany was working and now isn't maybe a overdrive snap ring came off? Ether way it sounds like the trany needs to come out.

Yep, we air checked, and it did work fine....this issue came up all the sudden.

Since the issue came up all the sudden, my guess is snap ring or something like that. You put it in gear and it doesn't have enough line pressure to hold because the oil is bleeding thru somewhere. Sounds like it needs to come out and gone thru, sorry. Did you use the snap ring that came with the tugger kit, its better then stock but it comes off too. I would use the one from Sonnax

Re: "Lost" forward gears, what gives?

We used the snap ring from the Tugger kit, I call Brian today and he said its a forward drum issue, probably cracked it. So out it comes!

Re: "Lost" forward gears, what gives?

i think thats it but not 100% sure. i was told they put a double bearing in the back of the trans and i had to get the intermediate shaft machined to fit. it cost me $1300 to have someone do it all. the whole trans needs pulled apart. give this guy a call 717 861 7525 ask for ladell
