A few trans questions....

What are symptoms of a weak pump? My trans shifts crisp and smooth, and everything seems fine, but on lock-up, I still feel a slight "bounce" at times (mostly low rpm locked, sometimes on lock-up). Could this be a U-joint issue? I'd like to get it on a scanner, could that tell me if I had low pressure?

And when I shut the truck off, I get a sqeek/rattle type sound. Should I have used locktite on the converter bolts?

Re: A few trans questions....

the bounce is probably leaf springs. as for u-joints, i oculd feel mine by going into over drive, letting off the throttle then getting back in it again and hearing a thud.

Re: A few trans questions....

Good call Doug. But what about the low RPM TC locked condition?

Do you know if there's a way to simulate trac bars with straps? Maybe strap the axle to the reciever??

Best bet to see your line pressure/pump pressure is a scanner, I prefer the OTC scan tools, if you have a choice.
And the 'strap bars' would likely be better going from the axle to a forward position, but where..... (could be wrong, it's happened before)

Oh! one more thing, double check you fluid level, as the TC is among the first to suffer from low fluid (causing lack of constant pressure).

Of course, any diag setup should be able show operating pressures. Best is to do it while running (KOER), to see if if fits inside the factory perameters.

Re: A few trans questions....

Do you know what kind of pressures I should be looking for? I'm gonna check it out ASAP...

Is there a test port for me to use a mechanical gauge?

Re: A few trans questions....

There is always a mechanical check plug, but I don't know where it is on your 4R100. TCC line pressure should be in the neighbourhood of 95 psi at lock-up, near triple that in reverse. Again, I could be wrong.
