Rebuilt 4R100 still sucks. JW thinks it's all tuning

OK guys, so a couple more questions regarding a rebuilt tranny. I thought it was a complete piece of crap, but after talking to John Wood, he thinks it's all Jody's tunes at DP. I'm trying to do some data logging as back up to send to Jody. I emailed Jody prior to calling John and Jody basically blamed all my issues on the tranny.

The biggest issue seems to be the tranny slipping in and out of lock up, hard noticeable downshift at 50mph no matter what, shifts not clean and precise and almost seems to hang between shifts(AE kinda confirmed this for during shift commands). Rebuilt unit is supposed to have sonnex shift kit and came with Daaco triple disc low stall TC

While data logging today I noticed that during the 1-2 shift the solenoid 1 and 2 both stay signaled "on" and the trans seems to hang between the 2 shifts. This does the same at the 2-3 shift. What's weird is solenoid 3 never shows a command, but tranny still goes into 3rd and then 4th. Do I have the solenoids mixed up in my mind? Does solenoid 1 control 2-3 shift and solenoid 2 control 3-4? Leaving solenoid 3 never commanding anything?

Also, should the vehicle speed sensor read actual speed in AE? Mine is only reading either .1up to about 40, .2 from 45-70, or .3 on highway.

Any help on parameters or what to monitor and look for in AE would be great.

SS1 is on in first and second. To make the 1-2 shift SS2 goes from off to on. If it doesn't do this then it will not shift.
To make the 2-3 shift SS2 stays on and SS1 turns off.
To make the 3-4 shift SS1 stays off and SS2 turns off.

SS3 turns on the coast clutch solenoid. It is NOT used for any shift.

Thank you for clarifying that for me Mark, you are a huge asset. OK so if SS3 never comes on is that mean the TCC/Coast clutch is not operating? I have data logged quite a few files lately and every single column for SS3 is always a zero.

Are the readings I'm getting for the VSS normal? Or should it read actual speed?

Do you think that the going in and out of lock up could be caused by line pressures of tuning or would it be to valve in the pump body? Or maybe that not what I'm feeling?? It never happens in 1st or 2nd, but often in 3rd and early after the shift to 4th

The TCC and SS3 are separate solenoids. The TCC controls the torque converter clutch, and SS3 controls the coast clutch. Those are separate clutches.

SS3 should activate if you press the OD OFF button.

I don't know what the readings you are getting for VSS mean. I've never used AE, so I don't know what it is reading.

Going in and out of lockup can be caused by tuning or by mechanical problems. When I did this kind of thing for a living I had different tools than you do. I could look at the duty cycle commanded to the TCC solenoid to see when the computer told the clutch to lock or or unlock. I don't know if AE can do that.

Thanks again Mark. I'm not sure I can monitor TCC duty cycle or not.

I think I did hit the OD button a few times while logging data, but don't think SS3 ever commanded. Would no command mean tuning since the solenoid pack is new?

It might. Does the truck have engine braking when you turn off the OD? Does it have engine braking with the shifter in 1 or 2?

Its seems to always have engine braking unless it hits about 30 mph on no throttle or coasting to stop. I have not tried to manually put in 1st or 2nd and coast yet.
