02 shift to OD

Dad's truck.

He says it's been randomly not shifting to OD over the last few weeks. It wasn't wanting to shift into OD at all today so I had him pull the chip. It has the same symptoms, not good.

He says if he is doing 60 @2500, shifts to neutral, revs the motor a little off idle, puts back in drive, it will shift into OD. The tranny does not slip, has no abnormal heat, and doesn't even mind being lugged in OD once it's there.

It will shift to OD at 65 mph.

Solenoid pack?

VSS?

Re: 02 shift to OD

Started flashing OD light last night. P0783

Again, there is no slipping at all, just not shifting to OD when it should.

Re: 02 shift to OD

That's not almost the same thing at all. The truck does not try to shift period, until 65 mph, some of the time, meaning randomly. Other times it shifts like it should at the normal mph. I had him clear codes, pull battery cables, touch + & - together to reset things. Truck has driven flawlessly for 20+ miles at this point. I'm sure it will be back, just tells me it's not mechanical.
