E40D Front pump seal?

Anyone ever push theirs out?

Was towing my racecar home from Sonoma yesterday in about 100* weather, flat road (I5) cruising about 65, maybe 10k load. Bone stock truck. 1996 f250 ext cab long bed 4wd 7.3.

Started seeing smoke, pull over and have fluid POURING from the inspection plate. I pulled the plate and the plug is still in the converter.

So I'm assuming I blew the front pump seal at this point. I dont have a trans temp gauge so can overheating cause this?

Gonna try to get up early tomorrow and pull the pan see if i can see anything before i start ripping the trans out.

Thanks guys

Re: E40D Front pump seal?

After a little more research I have come to realize that.

Got the trans out. gonna put a gasket/seal kit in it a tugger kit and a bunch of small update/improvement parts then seal it back up put it back in. then a temp gauge and aux trans cooler. should be good to tow fine for a while after that.

There is an aftermarket seal made from Viton that is MUCH better than the stock seal.
