4r100 shifting issue

I bought my 01 F350 about 2 years ago in the summer and noticed when it got cold and I was running up a hill, it'd bang into gear... enough to jerk me in my seat. My brother said it was just bc it was cold and I didn't give it enough time to warm up - so next time I let it warm up longer. It didnít do it for awhile and I try to be cognizant of how I drive it up hills for this reason. Recently going up hills, itíll shift 2nd to 3rd to 4th in a matter of seconds. And RPMs drop drastically but it wonít stop moving so I keep trucking on. Also recently when I shift into reverse or drive I hear a clink Ė kinda of like a manual transmission would sometimes do. I donít have any codes or any other issues with it but am curious as to what my issue is or anyone else has faced this problem. I donít really have $4k to buy a BTS or JW trans so thatís out. New Valve body and shift kit help? New Torque Converter? Any words of wisdom or help would be greatly appreciative.

nope, there was no light or anything. I checked codes numerous times just incase the bulb was burnt out, nothing.

I'm guessing this is tough to fix since its dreaded? Or is it an easy fix. I really just want to get a John Woods trans but I believe my wife would just bury me in the back yard

Re: 4r100 shifting issue

well the clank could just be slack in the rear end or in the t case check the rear end if its got more than .010 slack thats we its coming from if its not vibrating and making noise and not over say .025 back lash wouldnt worry alot the clank is more than likely not in the tranny

Re: 4r100 shifting issue

The clank is most likely either a dry slip yoke or a bad ujoint.
