Torque Converter not always locking up

Well my 93 with 160k seems to be funny about when the TC locks up when it's cold. I drive about a quarter mile to the stop sign from my house. Then I take off & go about a mile or so & have to go down a hill & stop to turn. Lately the TC will lock up around 30+mph (I know I need a video) after I go from the first stop sign. But when I stop at the second one, turn & take off again it may not lock up again for another mile. I can drive it in overdrive going 50mph & let off & it still won't engage. But when I turn down a side road it will lock up again & be just fine for the rest of the time I'm driving.
So I guess my question, is this normal or should I start looking at a new TC? I tend to let the truck warm up good & don't just jump in & mash it.
It just get's me how it will lock up & then it won't lock up. Could it also be the fact that I'm going down a hill & all of that cold fluid is splashing around in there?

Garrett. It's normal in cold weather for the TC not to lock. Mine won't either.

Does it lock fine once the truck is warmed up?

Thanks Greg, just wanted to double check!
Never has another problem once the truck is fully warmed up.
Now that I think of it my old F150 would do the same thing too. That truck was too quiet & didn't have a tach & had 3.55s so it was harder to tell what was going on. The Diesel with 4.10s speaks to me!

Re: Torque Converter not always locking up

i'm having the same problem with my 450 except its not only when its cold, most of the time when its cold it locks up perfect, and after i drive a while, stop at a stop sign or at the store, and then take off again it acts up, it took me driving about 20 miles last night before it decided to lock up, stopped twice, thought it was tunning so i ran all 6 tunes and nothing worked. it finally locked up when a car stopped in front of me and while i was slowing down. anyone know the problem?!?

CAT, thats because your PCM on your truck wont command the lock-up untill the trans is up to temp.
