i need help quick

ok so i am sure some of these questions have been answered but i have been looking for them and no luck.

i have a 1990 7.3 e40d , the o/d light is blinking, i just bought it and the guy before me put in a speedo sensor not even a month ago. the speedometer is still a little shakey so im wondering about that but i did notice that one of the wires on the tach sensor is bare and probably grounding out on the sensor nut, but for the most part the tach works it dose sit at zero at idle but when you get on it it starts to work. my question is should i replace it , could the tach sensor have anything to do with the speedo still being shakey and also can i get a code off the tranny since the o/d light is blinking . its supposably got 198,000 on it. i am kinda in a hurry got to have it fixed by saterday but i dont want to just randomly throw parts at it please if any one could help it would be much appreciated
