Zf6 issue

Heu guys my dad has a 2000 f250. It's got a zf6 with a south bend clutch. The truck it self has 160,000 on it and the clutch has about 60,000 on it. The other day the clutch peddal got very soft and it's pretty hard to put in gear also I can smell clutch burning . I checked the bushing under the dash it didn't seem
To have to much play in it. Any ideas on what could be wrong ? I was going to change the slave cylinder

Re: Zf6 issue

Get a new pre bled clutch master and slave. They are made out of plastic and don't last.

Re: Zf6 issue

I talked to my local stealership and they could only sell me either the master or the slave. Big suprise the dealer is not very helpful. So I went to my local parts store and they got me the pre bled kit. Easy to install. They both just twist and pull out.

Re: Zf6 issue

Ok I pulled out the shaft from the trans and had a buddy depress the clutch and the rod moved out fine. Would this mean it's still working correctly ??

Re: Zf6 issue

Could be leaking internally. It might work fine when there is no load on it but when it has to push the pressure plate it might not be moving all the way.

Nope!!! If it was getting the pressure it needed it would blow the shaft and seals right out the end of the slave cylinder....

I would try a new slave cylinder.. nd if that does not work.. then your master might be bad...

Re: Zf6 issue

I just replaced master and slave , I got a pre bled one from napa. Now it won't even go into gear, it would with the old one just with a little force.
