transmission compatabilty

I have an '01 F350 and my tranny went out. Things are alittle tight and I dont have the $3500 they say it will cost to fix it. A friend has a '97 he is parting out, and offered me the tranny. My question is will it fit? Thanks in advance.

Re: transmission compatabilty

Yes, it will fit and it will bolt up if both are 4x4 or both 4x2 and both have the same engines. It won't work, however.

Your 4R100 has speed sensors that the PCM needs to control the transmission. The E4OD he has does not have the sensors. It would cost A LOT less to rebuild your transmission than to retrofit an E4OD with those sensors.
