let's talk about gears and over drive

I've got a f450 with 5.13s in it which is ok cause i tow heavy up to 45k gvw but i need mo gears mainly on the high side. Trucks got the 6 speed in it really a 4 speed with a granny low and a overdrive if you wanna call it that. I have experience and access to all kinda stuff i have a 9 speed roadranger that could be donated but looking at the size i dont think thats going to fit.lol 2 speed axle seems the simpler solution i probably got one of those laying round here somewhere too. Yes ive seen the $3000 thing too seems a bit pricey to me. Im thinking why not just cut tge axles of tge two speed weld my little ones on throw a shift motor in the tool box like the old days and go to work. Somebody tell me why not or yea that's a great idea.

Re: let's talk about gears and over drive

sounds like a lot of extra work, custom fitting, all new suspension geometry, new driveshaft anyways will be needed..

just get the gear vendor overdrive. its only 2 grand or less Im pretty sure, and its gonna be alot less time and effort

Time= money it might seem expensive up front, but you'll save yourself headaches down the road. plus you can easily split gears with it...butter smooth

and a bunch more...

Re: let's talk about gears and over drive

3000 grands what ive been seeing and will it hold up to 45k gvw? Hate to spend 3k to find out it wont. I've been thinking on the two speed axel the biggest problem i see is your splines in tge rear will be bigger "different" then your spindles. As long as the chunk will clear there ain't much to swaping a rear acle done it quite a few times as well as adding a tag axle. Two speed axles are durable and reliable tge shifter motors are about like cam sensors take one with ya. If this can be done and i feel sure it can for less then 3k there should even be a market for it. Another something i see running into if u over come the above mentioned problem 2 speed axles usaully are geared real low not giving alit on the top side most are used for splitting the low side in under powered apts. Especially if you take one outta something running 22.5s and put 19.5s on it.

Re: let's talk about gears and over drive

could always use a divorced mitchell box in place of the carier bearing, way stronger than the gearvendor

1996 F250:
-5spd w/4.10's
-3" dp to 4" straight pipe
-SouthBend ConOFE clutch
-K&N cone filter
-EBPV brake
-ISSPRO Gauges
-Custom E-Fuel
-Dana 60
-And now a custom front right fender.......
