E40D won't shift past second. HELP!!!

I have a 1997 power stroke and while driving one day took off from a stop sign and wouldn't shift past second. The trans doesn't slip or shift hard and no OD light. If you floor board the throttle it will shift from first to second and when time to shift to third it hits rev limiter like the trans is in neutral. Slow down to a certain speed it shift back into second and pulls. I have read a few forums about this but just looking for easy ways to solve this problem without sending to the shop. If anyone has any input please let me know. This is my daily driver and I need her running.

Also had a used 30000 mile trans put in about 3 years ago with shift kit aftermarket valve body and sun coast torque convertor.

Does it have reverse? That will test if the direct clutch works. The direct is used in reverse, third, and fourth gears.

If reverse works it most likely is a stuck valve in the valve body, or possibly a bad shift solenoid.
