tough going into gear while shifting

i have a 96 f250 and recently my clutch went, well while it was getting progressivly worse i noticed it was getting harder to go into gear kind of like a pause while shifting. right berfore the clutch install it would start to engage a quarter inch off the floor so i figured the hard going into gear while shifting was because of that. well after i put in my valair clutch i still have hard shifting, clutch is good and it engages halfway up like it should. only way to describe the problem is a pause while going into gear, certainly cant shift fast. what could be the problem, bushings or something? thanks for the help

What about the slave cylinder? also the older trucks use to break the fire wall, Ford had two different repair kit to fix the problem.

Re: tough going into gear while shifting

Yes I got the prebled master and slave. I have a feeling my syncros may be my problem. It shifted decent before the clutch got bad. I babied it I noticed it got worse but I figured it was just cuz it was so bad. Well now my clutch is good and still hard shifting. I put the permanent heim joint in so its not that.

Re: tough going into gear while shifting

Do you mostly notice this only going into 1st and reverse? It could be that the pilot bearing in the flywheel is seized, or seizing, causing the input shaft to spin at engine rpm even when the clutch is disengaged (pedal to floor). Some big trucks actually use a system kind of like a brake that slows the input shaft to help shifting.

Re: tough going into gear while shifting

No its the same in every gear. Reverse is one of the easiest. While shifting it is like I put it in neutral for a second then put it in gear, except I'm trying to shift form gear to gear in one motion. Like a pause between
