i need help/advice on a transfercase rebuild!

ive got a 05 f250 that has a np273f transfer case.what happen was,my truck started making a scraping/grinding noise like a hub was bad so i jacked the truck up checked the hubs and nothing.so i put the truck in netural and took the drive shafts off and spun the back shaft to the rear wheels on the transfer case and found my noise.its coming from where the tranny slides in to the transfer case...the truck drives very well with no problems just the noise and i know it can not be good cause it sounds like sh**.im hoping it is just a bad bearing.now the transfer case is the only thing i have never taken apart on a truck and am geting ready to take it out but can find any info on how to rebuild it or replace bearings.can some one please give my ANY tips on this subject??thanks!

Re: i need help/advice on a transfercase rebuild!

I just repaired mine and I had worn forks they had an update kit that my 99 needed. I had to replace my main shaft. I don't know if your year already has the upgraded shaft. If your familiar with wrenchin, it's pretty easy. For diagnosis your just going to take it apart and see, then get your parts. The hard part of the job is getting the snap rings of the shaft without ruining them by bending. These snap rings didn't come with my parts. You have to use a pair of snap ring pliers, you may have to try a couple of different kinds or enterchangable tips. bigger the better. the snap rings don't have holes. Be patent, if you can successfully do this part, the rest is cake.

there is no gasket. Yes liquid or ultra black permatex is fine.
