Clutch Chatter

Noticed my clutch is chattering when I'm engaging first or reverse. Is it time for a new clutch or maybe a throw out bearing? The clutch holds fine once engaged. Any ideas.

Re: Clutch Chatter

Let me try and clear up whats going on here.

When I push the clutch in, it makes a metal on metal noise. Like kicking a soda can on the sidewalk. When I release the clutch the noise is gone. It goes into gear fine and shifts fine. Any ideas, should I not drive the truck untill I can get it inspected?

Re: Clutch Chatter

This isn't my truck, but it almost sounds just like this truck is doing.

I know its a dodge, but its all I could find. I'll try to take a video of mine later today.

Re: Clutch Chatter

Barely made it home. I could barely get into gear from a stop, once moving not to bad. Thinking about purchasing valair 500ph one, any opinions.

Re: Clutch Chatter

I spent for the almost went with Valair but remebered what my luck is when try to save a buck. I bought a South Bend 60 fek kit and completely satisfied!!! Single disc kit is slightly more grabby with the feramic facing. The deprssing clutch pedal is suprisingly easier, also shifting from low to 2nd noticeable better. They both make a good product. I obtianed feedback from numerous forums before making my choice.

Re: Clutch Chatter

It sure sounds like a throw out bearing to me. I do remember clutch companies offering an upgraded fork too. Some Factory forks were weak and broke. Not sure if your truck is new enough to have revised fork.

Re: Clutch Chatter

I haven't hear anything bad about Valair, they are made just up the road from me too.
