Truck surging at slack throttle

2002 F350 7.3, past 3 months the truck has been surging when cruising at steady speeds anywhere from 20-60 mph. Engine runs VERY strong on acceleration and at idle. No codes show up on either engine or transmission. Ford mechanic suggested some damper valve or something in the intake was haywire because catalytic convertor has been removed, but I've driven the truck for 2 years like this with no problems. Acts like convertor is hunting for lock-up, but experience same problem with OD off. Problem all but disappears when cruise control is set. Where am I going with this?

Re: Truck surging at slack throttle

I had pretty much the same symptoms... I replaced the throttle position sensor and it cured it. I used the Dorman one, which last only 3 months. I had the same symptoms come up again and replaced it again and it solved it. I don't know if there are any other companies making those sensors but its usualyl cheap and easy to replace. See if you have a buddy who could let you borrow his and eliminate that as a possibility.

Hope this helps.
