transmission slack zf6

I am not sure if the zf6 has slack or could a transfer case chain cause slack?
has slack when you get in or out of the throttle... I have not checked the rear end yet. I plan on checking the rear end with a dial indicator when I change the fluid. Spinning the drive shaft does not seem to show that much wear.... so that kinda has me puzzled

Re: transmission slack zf6

Same problem that I had. Felt like there is slack in the drive train. Lube the slip joint on the drive shaft. With axle rap the slip joint moves in and out. When I heard this I call ed B.S. but I tried it and it fixed my problem. I used WD-40 to test it out. I put the straw through the hole but the u joint and filled it up full.

I've had three zf6's now and they all seem to have a little "slop". It's not a super tight transition when you go from spinning the driveshaft to the driveshaft spinning the trans.

Re: transmission slack zf6

i put a zerk fitting in the slip yoke. greased it with mobil 1 synthetic grease. It helped a little bit. Is there a certain type of grease to use?

Re: transmission slack zf6

I have the same issue. I know part of it is the rear end. I jacked up the rear and rotated the tire front and back annd the pinion shaft would shift 1/8". Need to find someplace to rebuild it

You are going to have play, even in a NEW rear. You will be waisting your money

Re: transmission slack zf6

I don't think the pinion shaft should run in and out of the housing an 1/8" by reversing the tire rotation. My '06 doesn't move at all. It can't be good on the gears and bearings.
