95 E4OD major leak

My auto trans just started leaking. This morning I saw trans fluid all over the bottom of my truck. Drove it today and it will sputter when in reverse, died once just from putting it into reverse. It is leaking a huge amount from the passenger side where the pan bolts to the transmission. I haven't noticed any major trans temp issues as of late, same as always, no hotter than 150* Is there a seal between the trans and the pan that I could drop the pan and replace along with a fluid change? It's pretty bad to where I parked just now and left it running and it was just dropping fluid all over the ground.

Re: 95 E4OD major leak

Just kidding. The downpipe shifted and is sitting on one of the cooler lines and must have cracked the fitting into the transmission or has it tweaked enough to leak like a sonofab!tch.

So my question now is, the line that comes to the front of the transmission (the one without the inline filter), Is it the return line? Is it possible to modify it a little to shorten the length between the trans and where it makes a 90* turn, I just need a little clearance off the downpipe. When taking this line off, how much fluid is going to come out?

Re: 95 E4OD major leak

Do you know how much fluid will come out when I undo this fitting and take the line off?

I'd get a small coffee can or something to be safe.

The front line is out of the trans to the cooler. You might get as much as a quart drain out of the cooler when you remove the fitting.

Re: 95 E4OD major leak

Mark, what would you recommend now for fluid flushing? I have lost quite a bit of fluid through this whole thing. Also do you think the line can be modified to shorten the distance between the fitting at the trans and the 90* bend?

Re: 95 E4OD major leak

Alright, I ordered a new fitting. Will the new fitting work with the old steel lines?

Here's how to flush the fluid. https://powerstrokenation.com/forums/...ead.php?t=4338

I don't see any reason you couldn't shorten the line.

Re: 95 E4OD major leak

Thanks for the help Mark. I wasn't sure if I could still use that flush procedure since I will be starting with less fluid since I have put alot of mine on the ground.
