Tranny issues, possibly t/c related?

Here's the deal, the converter I put in my truck is way to tight and has really hurt my trucks spool up. The truck is just a dog out of the hole. I spoke with the converter builder and they are more than willing to fix the converter up so it will work better for my application.

Heres my question though, when I go from park to reverse it loads the motor down hard, almost like it's gonna die. Is the super tight converter causing that or is that a pump issue?

Anyone have any insight?

Have you checked fluid level?

A big cause of stalling in reverse is low fluid.

Another guy had a bad PI converter and his truck was doing the same thing. I think you just got a bad converter all the way around. Acts like it has not stall.

Fluid level is right where it should be.

I need to find some time to drop the tranny and get the stocker back in so I can send this one back to get repaired...

You would think they could send you another converter so you could swap straight across....

Maybe if they keep your CC so they are sure to get their core back.

I wish it was that easy, becasue I'm not looking forward to dropping the tranny twice.

Said they don't do it that way though, I've got to send this one to be modified.

Have you ever been around a truck with a broken sprag to where the truck has no torque multiplication? Is yours that bad or like halfway in between? How long have you had your tranny/convertor?

I've never been around anything with a broken sprag, but there definatley isn't much torque multiplication. The truck would hardly push the trailer I was towing backwards in the parking lot I had to turn around in.

The converter has been in since the motor build. So since about mid June. And it's been like this since day one.

I bet it is a bad converter rather then too tight but hopefully one of the guys that really knows can chime in.

ive been in a truck with a broken sprag.....doesn't fair too well off the line and makes a lot of smoke...

jacob- maybe you could try a t/c lockup switch just to see if it does anything!! cheap test there. sucks when a warranty works that way..ill see if i can help you out without having to pull it and send it then wait.

The bog in reverse sounds like the converter clutch is coming on. Low pressure can cause it, but you can't blame the pump outright. Loose VB bolts will do it. Possibly the seal on the stator shaft was overlooked and not installed or rolled. Good luck
