Smile Transmission Fluid

OK, so here it goes, checked my owners manual, i have a 6spd manual transmission, why do our trucks have the same fluid for manual transmission and automatic transmission Mercon 5 ATF, this is also the same fluid that goes into the transfer case, is there an alternative better fluid to put in our transmissions, i have 140k on this transmission and would like to have some better fluid. Also does someone have a write up and how to change MTF and trans filter? and transfer case / front rear diff (mine is the 10.5")

Thanks
Patrick

Re: Transmission Fluid

Other than a good brand of merc 5 I'd say no, mt's and transfers have been using ATF in many vehicles for decades. Far as I know if you of something different in there it'll burn them up. I'm pretty sure Schaeffers all-trans covers mercy but not merc sp. I personally love their products!

Re: Transmission Fluid

Amsoil's "ATL" Low Viscosity fluid covers Mecon LV & SP if your wanting to go to a full syn product.
