Question What are the Problems with Amsoil?

Hey Guys,
I've heard lots of people say not to use Amsoil, just wondering if there is any info or data out there showing what problems people had with it. Its the most available synthetic to me out here but don't want to use it if its going to F things up. Cheers

Re: What are the Problems with Amsoil?

I showed increase iron & copper wear on my used oil analysis report when I was using AMsoil's 15W-40 in my 7.3L. With Rotella I was seeing approx 30 ppm iron, with Amsoil 40 ppm, with delo 400 22 ppm, and with Schaeffer's @ 18 ppm. Others also have seen the same iron wear increase when using amsoil, Pappy on TDS was high 80's ppm for iron. 40 ppm is still within the normal range, but if I was paying all that extra $ for oil I would expect better wear results and not an increase. I'm sure others will disagree with me but I am not the only one whe experienced this with AMsoil. In addition the viscosity tended to drop to a 30 weight oil quicker for folks running dual HPOP setups. For almost $30 a gallon - there is better and it cost less.

Good info!

I am running Amsoil at the moment and want to send a sample in for analysis but have already researched Schaffer's and will most likely go with that instead.

Re: What are the Problems with Amsoil?

What about SAE ratings. Does Amsoil have them?

No they are not SAE certified or ISO 9002 certified.

Good Question! Surprised at the answer. I would've liked to have know that while dealing with some of those pimping it.

Re: What are the Problems with Amsoil?

I have heard some good and some bad about Amsoil. When I heard that their were no ratings on it, that settled the question for me. No ratings, it ain't going in my truck.
