Changing to Synthetic Motor Oil Suggestion

Does anyone think it is a good or bad idea to change to Synthetic Motor oil on an engine with almost 130,000 miles? I have heard conflicting stories about this. I have been told that if you use regular, stick with it, or if u started out using Synthetic, stick with it, but not to change. Any suggestions or experience with this?

I think that is around when I started using 5w40 rotella synthetic.I would have to start digging up dates at the office tomarrow if you want specific mileage range.

I switched at about 90,000 with good result. No negatives and maybe a quieter motor.

There are a lot of people that switch back and forth all the time.

those are the replies i like to hear. Now i just need to picka synthetic to go with. Im not going to ask which one to go with, as there is another thread about that. We will see what happens. I just changed my oil last month before i left for Korea. So i wont be due an oil change until just before winter. I might change it early too

Thats what i was thinking too. You are right about being able to find it anywhere

I have Amsoil that I got from Bob Riley, it was around $18/gal.. But I have heard good things about Schaffer's and Royal Purple too.

Re: Changing to Synthetic Motor Oil Suggestion

I would def use the AMS oil...I switched my 7.3 over to it a few months ago and noticed a ton of difference over Royal purple. I just put it my 6.0L and noticed a difference right off the bat.
