Filling rear Diff.

I went and got the Amsoil Severe Gear 75w140 to put in the rear of my 05 Superduty with a Mag Hytec diff cover. My problem is that I have been told that it is to hold 6qrts. I was only able to get about 4.5qts in and it would spill out of the fill hole. What am I missing? How do I get more in there?

Re: Filling rear Diff.

The Mag-Hytec rear diff cover has a dipstick on top. If you are filling it all the way up to the top of the fill hole you've overfilled. Just go by the dipstick.

This is the diff cover correct?

Re: Filling rear Diff.

Mine looks like that one, but it is s/n #6141. I did not see a dipstick on mine. Just a sender port on top for temps. I am filling in the stock filler on the side of the diff. Now that I think about it, the other one that I see on top of the diff cover I thought was a breather and did not touch it. Is that where the dipstick is?

Here's a link for reference:

you should have 3 plugs in the cover. Drain plug, dipstick, and 1/8 pipe plug (for sending unit).

Thanks, I found that one. Actually I have 4 plugs counting the one on the face of the cover.

Thanks again.
