A Couple Fuel Additive Questions

I see on this forum that some of you are using 2 stroke oil in your fuel. Whats the ratio? Are you running it because it's cheaper than the off the shelf additives? I get that we have to run something in our fuel because of the ultra-low sulfer fuel now, and the lubrication qualities are almost non existant. I personally use Racor Powershot' and Racor Performance Plus, at the same time, because I like the added cetane boost[power], and the improved fuel economy. But I am curious about using 2 stroke oil, and is there any other additive I should think about running instead? Thanks

Re: A Couple Fuel Additive Questions

I used the walmart brand because it was like $9 a gallon. I stopped using it and can tell a difference. I used it and the Motorcraft cetane boost. Ran out of 2 stroke oil and just haven't bought any, but I still use the Motorcraft cetane boost. It definitely added lubricity as the injectors seems quieter. But I think my fuel mileage and performance suffered a little. Now that the 2 stroke is out of my system it seems like the truck is more peppy. Could be from the oil lowering the btu of the fuel, but then I'm no smart guy like some of these guy here.

I would tend to agree with you. I have not used 2 stroke oil yet. I was wondering if it would affect fuel burn. Looks like it does. I'm thinking No. We're in it to make power, not throw it away.

Re: A Couple Fuel Additive Questions

a lot of guys claim to get an increase in mpg using 2 stroke oil. Up to 2 mpg. I have been using it for awhile and I havn't seen a diff in mpg.

I havent noticed a mpg diff, maybe 1mpg more. But how it quieted the injectors is really nice.

Re: A Couple Fuel Additive Questions

You should see a bit MORE BTU with the oil, and it should run a little hotter.

Oil will combust and produce energy. You are basically adding a second fuel in the mix.

I noticed a jump in fuel mileage with the 2 stroke oil and the injectors are much quieter.

I dont see how it would lower the BTU per burn

I'm going to try it in a tank or two. I'll see how it works for me.
