Recommended Gear oil?

Thinking of switching to synthetics in diffs, wondering what the PSN recommends?

Re: Recommended Gear oil?

Rear should already have synthetic...But my 4 preferences...

1..Redline
2..Amsoil
3..Schaeffers
4..M1

Last 3 are in no particular order... I do believe that Redline has the upper hand on gear oils...
I also believe that in gear oils--->Thicker is better... U might sacrifice a slight MPG decrease, but the added viscosity is well worth it, esp if you tow!!

I tow quite a bit in 4wheel drive, so I use Severe Gear 75W-110 in my front diff...

Everyone has their preference...These are mine...

Good Luck in your Quest!

Re: Recommended Gear oil?

I haven't gotten around to changing it yet but I picked up Redline 75w-140 for the rear and mobil 1 75w-90 for up front. Your truck actually already has a synthetic in the rear but changing it is a good idea IMHO.

In my dodge I ran mopar up front and amsoil 75w-140 in the rear and the amsoil performed perfectly but redline was a little cheaper so I went with that.

I would recommend getting an 08+ diff cover too, they are a nice looking peice, add some cooling and I got mine for $60 bucks from a local medium duty dealer.

Re: Recommended Gear oil?

Didn't realize there were different weights front and rear. I've got that preferred customer amsoil account so will probably go that route.

Am I correct that there is 5.8 pints in the front and 7 pints in the rear?
