Hey everyone, got the heads off the ole 7.3 and figured I may as well give the heads a refresh. What is the best brand of valves for these 7.3's? The machine shop said Mahle is great quality, has anyone heard or have experience with Engine pro's nitro black valves? Seems like they are supposed to be a upgrade over the factory valves and at $330ish for a complete set of intake/exhaust valves seems like it's a decent deal as well.
After talking with the machine shop they said Mahle is very high quality and also recommended a company called "Ferrea" and said they make top notch products. I messaged the company called Ferrea and they said they can make the valves no problem but they are $65 A PIECE! So that is a no go. So far it seems OEM/Mahle are the best quality for our heads based off what the machine shop is telling me (other then the Hypermax Inconel exhaust valves but are not cheap). If anyone has any experience with replacing valves, quality of brands or suggestions please be free to chime in! Any input is greatly appreciated!
From what I understand, oe/Mahle is your best bet especially if it’s not a sled truck. I know of many rebuilt 7.3s that used oe valves but upgraded springs and pushrods. Gotta look into the shimming though I saw something about a slight shim with the tighter springs
Mahle are good engine parts. Just wondering though on why replacing the valves, old ones not serviceable any longer.
