97 OBS looking for Starter Swap info

Hey everyone, I'm in the process of restoring my dads old truck and i'm in need of a new starter. I've read that the 01-03 SD starter is a better option due to the gear reduction. Is that still the best route to go?

I've also read about a DB electrical starter claiming it is superior.

If anyone can shoot me a little advice i'd appreciate it!

my experience with the DB electric starter is they work great......until they don't and leave you stranded.
motorcraft starters or the one my friend builds for me last for a long long time and give you warning they are dying.

the two DB units i had worked, and then just stopped working. no warning at all.

Okay so I'll probably stick with a SD starter then. Is it the starter with two bolt holes or am I looking for the one with 3?

If you want one of the best starters out there get a Denso

https://www.nationsstarteralternator...28000-8420.htm

Just make sure that you don't get a Chinese knock off if your go to a different supplier

The Powermaster one from Summit Racing is also a good starter

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/pwm-9051

Or go to Rock Auto and get a Motorcraft one.

Re: 97 OBS looking for Starter Swap info

So what Iíve been looking out for is a 6.4 or 6.7 starter. You can swap the nose cone from a super duty starter onto them and have a kick butt starter with reliability. The kicker for the obs guys is finding two starter.

01 f-250, Standard
Rev tech 4" lift, 37" military wrangler Mt tires
KC diy 66, Full force 160/100 and custom tunes from PHP
Banks intercooler and full 4" exhaust, Diy S&B intake
Diy quad feed, Hydra, Isspro boost, pyro, and fuel pressure
3/0 battery cables with military style terminals

Re: 97 OBS looking for Starter Swap info

Thank you for all the great information guys. I went ahead and ordered the starter.

Also, I noticed that my dad had torn out the positive battery harness and the positive wire running to the starter because the factory harness was shot. I ordered a new harness as well. Do you all have a diagram where all the Positive wiring goes so that I can get it hooked back up?
