Have you ensured that you're not trying to make it bend against it's section? Like.... being that it's a strip of metal, you're not trying to shove it in so that it has to buckle thickways right? Make sure you rotate the dipstick and keep trying. A lot of times just flipping them completely over will make them happy.

Really sounds like it's stopping at the first downward bend.

Fwiw, you can pull the tube relatively easily, as it's just an o-ring seal to the pan nut and the nut on the front valvecover bolt that you already took off to pull the head. It just pulls right out once the nut is removed from the valvecover stud.

WHATEVER you do.... do NOT remove the large nut from the side of the oillpan. Don't even look at it.

I would do everything in my power to get that dipstick back in there without pulling the tube. That's a leak-prone area a lot of times.

Re: powerstroke dip stick tube

ya buddy of mine took that nut off when the belt broke the tube on his superduty curplunk fell the nut into the oil pan he paid a mechanic to get it out 1300 bucks later .... its gotta be stopping right behind the manifold but ive fought it for hours and even tried a dipstick out of a different truck... but anyway if the tube just pulls out of the pan then i guess thats what i'll do... thanks
