Truck is starting weird

I got a 96 and whenever the truck is warm it cranks for a good 5 seconds then slowly stutters to life. When the truck is cold it starts like a champ. This whole ordeal started when I was running off-road fuel in it. I don't know if it was coincidence or what. Could this possibly be an HPOP issue developing?

How old is the oil (as in, how many miles since last oil change)? What flavor and weight of oil?

your only variable from running fine and running not so fine is fuel. Replace your fuel filter, change your oil to be safe as well.

Re: Truck is starting weird

Red fuel still is just LSD, not ULSD, i think. I doubt that is the difference, but on the fuel filter

It sounds to me like a HPOP issue. As if the oil is cold its thicker which makes it easier to start. If the oil is warm its thinner and doesn't want to start.

Usually a tell tell sign of IPR Orings "BUT" that usually equates to a complete no start when hot if its the IPR Orings.

I would check your oil level and to be on the safe side change your fuel filter.

Re: Truck is starting weird

Well to start, the oil was changed about 500 miles ago. The truck has had Shell Rotella 15W40 in it since new so that's what I have been putting in it. The fuel filter was changed at the oil change as well, so about 500 miles on that. I am leaning towards what BigStroker is saying. Its got 260k on all the original engine parts. I will check the oil and fuel filter just to be on the safe side though. But on the bright side, I may be forced to upgrade!
