Oil leaking down to inspection plate

I found one oil line that I didn't get tightened, and the oil ran down to the drain hole in the valley. It is coming out of the inspection plate. I am going to take it off tomorrow to see if there is anymore oil in there. Could there be a plug or something I missed on the back of the engine if no more oil is coming out of the valley drain hole?

Once you stop the leak the oil will stop coming out of the valley once it dries up. There are no plugs to remove.

Re: Oil leaking down to inspection plate

I didn't know if there might be a plug or something on the back side of the motor I might have not tightened or if all that oil was just from that one fitting. Thanks will look at it again today

This might seem crazy but we had the same track of a leak down the inspection plate. It acctually was traveling up from a flattened brass washer on oil pan. Ed E

Re: Oil leaking down to inspection plate

The turbo could be leaking from the pedestal orings. Or it could be from the 2 large plugs on the rear of each head. They are around the size of a silver dollar.

Re: Oil leaking down to inspection plate

Usually my problems start out with, "We have never seen that before." so I will look at that too. Thanks

Exclamation Re: Oil leaking down to inspection plate

Also you have to be sure if its oil, or its fuel combined with junk of the motor seeming to be oil.

Re: Oil leaking down to inspection plate

Almost positive it is not leaking from the valley. There is only one weep hole from the valley, correct? It runs down under the crank, but only runs after you stop cranking the motor. If it were a rear main seal installed wrong wouldn't it leak all the time. This acts as if the cranking of the motor build pressure and when cranking stops the pressure of oil is released? I am stumped thinking of pulling the tranny again, but not sure I will be able to see any more do to the flywheel.
