Problems Getting Worse

97 with 156k started having more problems yesterday.

For the last month or so the throttle has a mind of its own. With a steady foot on the throttle it takes off or goes back to idle.

Scanned it a few times and but it never threw a CEL.

Replaced ICP sensor and connector- No Change

Last night it started idling weird, bounces 200-300 RPMs at idle. Sounds like its missing and runs like crap.

When i started it up this morning it was loping and would barely run till it got warm. It smokes blue/white every startup even though i have no EBPV?

I ran a CCT on it about a week ago before the problem got worse and it threw a code for the #3 Cylinder. Ill get the code soon

It passed the buzz test, and they all sounded fine. Changed the fuel filter today and it looks really dark and sort of oily. The fuel filter housing was dirty inside as well.

CPS was replaced 50k ago by PO, but im gonna put a new one in there. Any other suggestions? Injector or O rings? IPR? No fuel leaks that i can find.

Its been getting a lot worse mileage lately and ive noticed a loss in power.

Thanks for any help- Gibson

Re: Problems Getting Worse

Install new injector o-rings, clean fuel bowl and fpr screen. Clean and get a good look at the injector cups. Check new fuel filter periodically for oil residue. Get diagnostics and post up ICP & IPR #'s

Re: Problems Getting Worse

Sounds like O- rings since theres oil in the fuel, plus the oil burning. You adding lots of oil?

Re: Problems Getting Worse

Ill Check it today. Ive never noticed it burning oil or being low on the dipstick much.

A CPS wouldnt cause these problems would it? Im wondering if i have the combination of a couple problems. Its missing bad, especially when cold. Sometimes worse than others though.

Re: Problems Getting Worse

A bad CPS wouldnt cause those issues, if cps was bad, it would just die randomly, but run fine. You have a check engine light? Oil in the fuel usually means bad O-rings, but you're not using much oil? I would clean the fuel pressure reg. screen on the drivers side of fuel filter housing, remove the 2 8or 10 mm bolts, you'll see a small screen in the FPR. Also your wiring harness / connectors for your injectors could be bad.

Re: Problems Getting Worse

The other problem could be the TPS with the weird pedal thing.

Re: Problems Getting Worse

I didnt see any oil in the fuel, but the filter was dark and looked oily, maybe it wasnt that?

I was wondering if its my pedal position sensor, and that was the next thing i was gonna fix before it started missing and running like crap.

Gonna run some diagnostics on it wednesday and see what the CCT tells me this time.

Re: Problems Getting Worse

The TPS on the throttle pedal is acting up which is causing the no response to acceleration without input issue. Dorman part for superdutys fits our trucks as well. You also have bad injector o-rings. Fix these issues first and then see how the truck runs. Until you fix these two issues you will just be chasing your tail.
