Rough Idle '95 7.3L

Well it appears I'm not the only one having this problem lately! I've read up and most people suggest switching to the Ford black CPS which I have tried. It seemed to make it run a little better for a week or two but it's now worse than it was to begin with.

Tonight I replaced the Ford one with my original one less than a year old from Napa. Same rough idle and you can visually see the tach go up and down at idle and feel it in your seat.

After having my truck scanned looking for problems with the TS chip I installed a few weeks ago, I was told I have problems with #3 & #8 injectors so thats what made me change the CPS in the first place. What worries me though is that he said they showed lower pressure than the other cylinders. Can this be caused by that CPS problem? He did say the HPOP was producing plenty of pressure.

What else could cause the rough idle? I've got a fresh oil change with Valvoline Synthetic & oil is topped off, newer fuel filter and air filter is clean. I'm going to check the IPR nut tomorrow to make sure its tight but I'm worried about those two cylinders. Sorry for babbling I'm falling asleep haha

I should also mention the TS is not hooked up right now as it's having the tunes adjusted. Thanks -David

Hmm...sounds like the rough idle is just from the 2 injectors. Sounds like bad injectors. And I think if your CPS is bad it just makes the truck a little sluggish, not a rough idle. I've also heard of where the hot tunes on a chip have hurt the stock injectors and HPOP(just a thought)

Re: Rough Idle '95 7.3L

Would excessive smoke at cold start also be a symptom? I guess I don't really know it's excessive but it's definitely more than when I first bought it a few years ago!

Yeah depending on what actually went wrong with the injectors then yeah there would be abnormal white smoke. Sometimes even at operating temps. Any mis firing?

It's more of an erratic idle and feels a little bumpy from the seat. Doesn't happen all the time but a majority. The smoke is more blue/blackish on cold start but doesn't smoke at all when its warm.

What cps did you install? Before you go replacing the injectors make sure its something cheaper first.

Re: Rough Idle '95 7.3L

Did you try the grey one yet? Buy only from ford or international. But for $20 it wont hurt.

Nope I stayed away from the gray because everyone said they were the devil. Maybe not?
