Speedometer dead, no odometer

OK so driving down the road, 40mph, truck down shifted, looked down to a dead speedometer and odometer, now I have VERY hard shifts.

Speed sensor in rear end?

Re: Speedometer dead, no odometer

Would it cause the odometer to go completely dead as in just like the key is turned off?

Re: Speedometer dead, no odometer

Got back in it, after waiting on my daughter, and all was fine on the way home. Pulled it and not dirty, or any visible defects on it.

I have had an ABS light randomly over the past few weeks, but every time I would have the ABS light, truck would shift fine, and speedometer, and odometer would always work,

I guess I'll be stuck till the problem shows itself again

Re: Speedometer dead, no odometer

Replace the VSS sensor in the rear axle. If after replacing it doesnt fix the issue check the wiring to that sensor.

It's probably the ABS module...

Have you checked fuses under the dash yet? Mine would blow #8 (I believe) time to time & I would loose my speedometer. Check all fuses first.

I'll double check the fuses, though I wouldn't imagine it to come back after going out? But I'll replace it just in case, there is an issue!

Fuses, good, also noticed that the one marked for the speedo, is also tied to the radio, and that was working during this issue.

Re: Speedometer dead, no odometer

You have a bad PSOM inside the instrument cluster. The only way to fix that is to replace the cluster. If it was the VSS it would only affect the speedometer and the ABS. The fact that the odometer goes out as well narrows it down to the PSOM.
