97' GPR short ??? % oil mystery?

I was driving my 97' and got "check engine light", loss power, ran rough, was able to limp (4mph) back home. low on oil 2qts. "burnt wiring" smell from crankcase. Pulled valve cover and harness on driver's side fried at the connectors. Checked pass. side all ok. Replaced all glowplugs, uvch. changed oil, changed qt oil in HPOP. Batteries are strong. My truck has 250k miles, all stock. Before I started the repair, I bought a code reader and truck threw no codes. I checked all fuses and they were good. Here's a couple of problems I have. #1-. When I started it up, she fired up and was running good, ran for 1-2 minutes and turned it off to check on things and the GPR was starting to smoke a little off the large terminal from the battery. I disconnected batteries right away. Relay was hot to the touch, checked wiring etc. started back up with a slower crank. Ran for a minute and now batteries show around 11.2 volts! No smoke from relay. Any ideas?? Bad gpr, altenator,? Problems #2- filled crankcase w/ 15qts oil NEVER showed on dipstick and No it's not on the ground. When I started truck, started leaking from back, dripping from back area(flywheel). Sorry for the long text, but i need some help. Thanks guys.

as far as the gpr goes, sounds like it's stuck on. if you disconnect the small wires then ohm the large terminals it should be no continuity, if there is the gpr is bad and can take out the wiring and the gp's--- again. If it doesn't have continuity with the small wires disconnected, try it with the small wires on and the key in the on position after 2 minutes, the gpr should only be on for about 2 min. Now for the oil, I can't imagine changing the oil, putting 15 qts in and not having it show on the dipstick---- you'll have to do more checking on that one. as far as the leak goes, any fluid leak in the valley will be drained through a weep hole at the back that goes into the flywheel area and comes out the inspection cover-- so you want to look for that leak in the valley. hope this helps and
